Value Chain Development of Forestry Products

In the county, farmers practice farm forestry so as to increase the percentage of forest cover on their land and also for commercial purposes. The types of trees planted include eucalyptus, gravellia, nandi flame, mexican green ash, pinus, Hekea saligna, d. caffra, acrocarpus fraxinfolia, cupressus lustanica and cypress. Eucalyptus is used as a source of energy by the tea factories and as a source of electric poles while a cypress has varied usage which includes construction, furniture making among others. The indigenous species are dombeya geotzenii, olea africana, sizygium spp, croton spp, markhamia lutea and prunus africana.
