In the county, 57 percent of residents live below the poverty line compared to the national level of 46 percent. However, at the Escarpment and the Valley at the county, the poverty levels are as high as 67 percent of the population. With the current health development initiatives being undertaken, the Life expectancy of the county which stands at 66 years is expected to increase. The literacy levels at the county constitute 49 percent which is lower than national figure of 67 percent.
Initiatives should therefore be developed to address the gap with both the fmrmal education s stem and the adult learning programs being adoressed. On the eeploymeot rates, the county has 5i percent of its labor force beio unemployed which is much higher than the national rate. Therefore, elternative forms of livelihoods, more tertiary institutions and inveotmnets in infrastructural development need lo addresseduso ao to mhtigate these high unemployment rates.
