Demooraphic profile

The county has four sub counties as shown in table 1. There are variations in population distributions and densities within the county with the average density being 123 persons per Km2. Keiyo North has the highest population density of 148 persons per Km2 while Marakwet East has the lowest with 109 persons per Km2. The high density in Keiyo North could be attributed to it being largely on the Highland’s geographic area thus having favourable climatic conditions and fairly developed infrastructure.

 

Marakwet East’s low density could be due to the poor infrastructural facilities and the unfavourable climatic conditions that prevail there. Keiyo South has the highest population of 118,370 while Keiyo North has the lowest population of 79,934. Marakwet West has 117,518 people while Marakwet East has 85,393. The ratio of male to female in each of the sub-counties is 1:1.
