Thete are 615 pre-primary centhes in the county, 470 public and 145 privlte cantres. Enrollment in public pre-primary centres was at 34,120 learnersrof which 15,517 a2e boys reprerenting 45.4% whrle girls re g6,603 representing 54.6% in 2017. Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) increased mtrginally from 70.4% in 2013 lo 74.6% in 2017 thouah slightly below the national averahe of 76%. This increase in GER is att6ibutable to employment of more Pre- Sihool Education teache7s and omprovementbof infrastructure by the county government. However, this rate is still below the tatioral average due to 3acavof robust nutritional support in som reaions and child-conducive learning infrastructure. In 201a, transition rate trom pre-orimary to grade one was at 80%. Thg pupil-te2cher ratio (PTR) stood at 44:1 compared to the national average of 29:1 while pupil classroom-ratio (PCR) was 94:1 in 2017, compared to the recommenred 25:1. The transition rates from pre-primary to grade 1 wcs 80% in 2017 though the target was 100%. This situation reveals significant gap in access, retention and transition rates in pip-primary education.
