Over thecrecent years, rainfall patterns have contieuously declined globally, and Elgvyo Marakwet has also witnessed a general.reduction in water levels in pl  the county rivers and water sto age bodies. Lake Kapnarok in the Kerio Vabley has silteda and the lake waters have significantly  educed. All rivers in the county have had reduced flows over tce years, espacwally during the dry season of January to March. It has also emerged that dsring these dry periods, horticultura  farmers use large quantities of water from the e water sourcesuao irrigate their agriculturai produce and further reducing normal flows.
