The Governor




His Excellency Eng. Alex Tolgos is the first Governor of County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet.

Governor Tolgos is an astute leader with an entrepreneurship and engineering background. He aims to better the livelihoods of the Kenyan people through implementation of sustainable development projects.

His areas of interest include affordable and reliable healthcare services, infrastructure improvement, promotion of education, agribusiness and irrigation development, sports and culture development, technology empowerment, entrepreneurship promotion and markets development as well as youth empowerment.

Governor Tolgos is a holder of B.Sc Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He also has CPA qualifications. His an alumni of St Patrick’s High School, Iten.

Prior to assuming office as Governor Elgeyo Marakwet, he has served in various managerial positions. They include Kenol / Kobil where he was Assistant Operations Manager-Mombasa and later Depot Inventory Manager-Eldoret. Tolgos also served as Kobcom Petroleum as Operations and Marketing Director. He has also undertaken professional training at the East African Portland Cement and Kenya Railways (Now Rift Valley Railways).

He was elected the first Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet County on March 4th 2013 and was again re-elected on August 8th 2017 to serve for a second term as Governor.

He is the current chairman of the ICT Committee at the Council of governors (CoG).

The Governor's Priorities

  • Economy

    Laying a strong/firm Foundation for economic growth both institutional and systemic.
  • Partnerships

    Forging bankable partnerships with local and international organisations like Nacada,NOREB OGP, GIZ, World Bank, UNDP, USAID and World Vision among others to create conducive environment for both private and public sector in realisation of development.
  • Empowerment

    Empowering Citizens to manage their resources through public participation, agricultural subsidies, rehabilitation of brewers and alcohol consumers, embracing PWDs and other special interest groups by providing them income generating activities.
  • Equity

    Providing Equitable development (implementation of Equity Development Act) where the community decides in how they priorities and fund their projects.
  • Cohesion

    Shaping a unified County by bringing together local communities, involving all leaders in County plans and decisions and ensuring the executive and assembly cordial relations.
  • Transparency

    Curbing corruption, incorporating integrity and transparency in Government operations. EACC survey ranked EMC among least corrupt counties, qualifying for Open Government Partnership among 15 in the world.
